I am upset (although of course not surprised) that Michelle Yeoh got killed. She was the best actor in this series by far. I continue to be disappointed and a mix of horrified and bored. I hope this series will redeem itself as TNG and Voyager both did… but it is not looking good so far.

Well, they didn’t recover her body, so she might come back. 🙂 Part two doesn’t add much to part one, except the setup for Michael being a court-martialed prisoner during the main series. Which is too clever by half, right? Also, life imprisonment is a cruel punishment which is grossly disproportionate. This should in no way be part of Starfleet at this stage. Mass incarceration is one of the most serious social challenges in the US today, and to see this glossed over is one of the most ominous signs so far (since there is at least a chance they will redeem some of the militaristic mess from the pilot by the end of the season).

One of the worst things about Star Trek Into Darkness is not that it was about nothing, per se, but that the things it is about are antithetical to Gene Roddenberry’s Star Trek. I’m afraid DIS may have the same problem.

Gene Roddenberry would certainly be disheartened to see what has become of his creative legacy.

I suppose one could say that this is a proto-Starfleet, but still, it seems like dismissal from service alone (and the disgrace inherent in the circumstances) would be more than punishment enough for a career officer.

So upset. Maybe you could start up threads about The Orville… a much happier show to review. 🙂

I just watched this again and appreciated some moments of clerverness, like Michael “out-logicking” the computer a la James Kirk to obtain her release from the brig. Since I’m not surprised anymore by the one dimensional portrayal of Klingons, it bothers me less and I have more brain space to appreciate other details. It’s a pretty big sin, though,.
