“Measure of a Man” for being the only actually good and memorable episode of the season, “Q Who” for introducing the Borg, and “The Emissary” and “A Matter of Honor” for Klingons.  In that order.  That was actually easy since the other episodes were almost entirely painful whereas those 4 had some points of interest at least.

Gah, looking back I can’t remember many of these very well. I used a 1 to 6 scale this year, and a gave a lot of twos which seem like 1s in my memory. I gave 6 fours, but not all of them stand out for me now. “Contagion?” I have to look it up. Here are my picks, in alphabetical order by tradition:

“The Emissary” For being the most fun episode, and deploying a strong female character in wicked costumes.

“A Matter of Honor” For worldbuilding new bridges into Klingon culture and doing more than ever before to establish Riker as a tolerable and better defined character.

“The Measure of a Man” Clearly the best episode, worthy of revisitation.

“Q Who” For its memorable special effects, Whoopi Goldberg, and introducing the Borg.

Honorable mentions: My other fours were “Pen Pals” (which in retrospect seems like a mistake), “Contagion,” and “Elementary, Dear Data.” Looking back, I think fondly of an episode which I only gave warp 2.5, “The Icarus Factor,” with Riker’s dad and the crazy anime-inspired battle suits.

We crossed in the posting, but made the same four picks. 🙂

I agree with you that “Contagion” is profoundly forgettable (not sure I quite followed the plot in the first place).  Elementary, Dear Data and Pen Pals at least have the virtue of being memorable because their plots were simple and made sense.  And I did kind of like Moriarty.  The Icarus Factor… so bad it was a little bit good maybe?  Not sure I fully believe that.

“Elementary, Dear Data”, “A Matter of Honor”, “The Measure of a Man”, “Q Who”, “The Emissary”.  Honorable mention to Lwaxana for making “Manhunt” semi-watchable.

Interesting how we all agreed pretty much exactly!
