Possibly of interest to anyone who’s into all the behind-the-scenes stuff. I’ve ordered a copy for myself.

“In the late 1980s Gene Roddenberry and Robert H. Justman gave Marc Cushman permission to write the definitive history of Star Trek. They backed their stamp of approval by providing documentation never shared with anyone before. After more than two decades of in-depth research and interviews, this extraordinary work is ready to be shared with the galaxy.”

Heh… I wonder if the “request a review copy” button would work for me because of this site.

My review copy just arrived. I’m having a fanboy moment. The cover letter also invites me to contact the agent to schedule a personal interview with the author.

Nice! I’m assuming my copy is waiting for me in my mailbox at home. I’ll find out when I get back!

Unless mine is an advance copy….

I’ve got mine! Heftier than I expected, this thing’s like a textbook!

I’m very impressed so far–I’ve only read though the various introductions and first chapter, but just browsing through the bibliography and indexes makes this look like a very exciting book.

I am really digging this. Not only is there a wealth of information, but it’s well written, and the author’s analysis of the episodes is really good. This paragraph about “The Cage” is perfect:

With all that works in “The Cage,” the script broods and lacks humor-as does the Captain. As a stand-alone film, “The Cage” is superb. As the template for a continuing series, it lacks a certain something–primarily, the energy, the wit and the swagger of William Shatner as Captain James T. Kirk.  – These Are the Voyages, pg. 65.

My long-delayed review will go up today, probably in a separate post.
