I watched the original series with my dad when it actually aired on the network. 

Then watched it in reruns, again with dad. My mother refers to Star Trek as “that space stuff“.  She would wander in as dad & I were watching some rerun for the umpteeth time and say, “Haven’t you seen this space stuff before?”.  With an absolutely straight face my dad would assure her that we’re watching for the first time.
