In a decidedly odd set up, Riker is given a derelict ship to fly in simulated battle against the comparatively overpowered <em>Enterprise<\/em>. Sima Kolrami, Zakdorn master strategist, comes on board to supervise the procedures. He is rather rude. Riker selects his crew to prepare his tactics. Now, what could possibly go wrong?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Thoughts:<\/strong> Not much to say about this one. A low-key episode which focuses mainly on character interactions (not story). Some observations: the makeup on Sima Kolrami is not subtle. The actor appears to have taken his performance cues from the makeup.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Starfleet is an exploratory, not military, organization? That\u2019s a bit revisionist. I guess things have changed since the Romulan War. The starships are tricked out with a lot of weaponry for purely exploratory vessels.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I don\u2019t see why Data would automatically be great at playing video games. He\u2019s a terrible poker player (poker is also a game of skill).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Ferengi, huh? They arrive just in time to deliver a bad SciFi cliche: \u201cYou have ten of your minutes.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Ferengi are awfully convenient. They immediately know everything about Picard and Riker\u2019s weaknesses, yet flee instantly when the script requires it. Someone could have done a much better job with this encounter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Wargames between Starfleet vessels makes me think of TOS 2.24, \u201cThe Ultimate Computer.\u201d Remember Dr. Richard Daystrom? And his amazing machine?
