Returned to DS9, O\u2019Brien struggles to assimilate the trauma of his ordeal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Thoughts:<\/strong> Whooooa. Where did this come from? This episode is the dark version of \u201cThe Inner Light.\u201d You could take a poll, and find out how many prefer this episode or &#8220;The Inner Light,&#8221; and why, and maybe learn a lot about them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I like this episode. It&#8217;s the stuff! Not a fairy tale. It&#8217;s doing what Star Trek is supposed to do: grappling with the human condition.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The condition this week is a deep dive into the aftereffects of trauma that blows away anything we\u2019ve seen before in the franchise on this topic. They didn\u2019t plumb the aftereffects this deep after \u201cChain of Command.&#8221; There is \u201cFamily,\u201d the entire episode devoted to Picard\u2019s adjustment after \u201cThe Best of Both Worlds,\u201d but it didn\u2019t go this far.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It&#8217;s a tough, tough story. Kudos to Colm Meaney, Alexander Siddig, and Avery Brooks for doing some of their best work.
