{"id":5207,"date":"2016-10-13T05:12:51","date_gmt":"2016-10-13T05:12:51","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/116-If-Wishes-Were-Horses"},"modified":"2016-10-13T05:12:51","modified_gmt":"2016-10-13T05:12:51","slug":"116-if-wishes-were-horses","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/relivethemajesty.com\/index.php\/2016\/10\/13\/116-if-wishes-were-horses\/","title":{"rendered":"1.16 &#8212; \u201cIf Wishes Were Horses\u201d"},"content":{"rendered":"\n        \n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>1.16 &#8212; \u201cIf Wishes Were Horses\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Plot:<\/strong> The appearance of Rumpelstiltskin following O\u2019Brien&#8217;s reading of a bedtime story to his daughter triggers an extensive meditation on the probable potency of hallucinogenic drugs in the 24th century.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Thoughts:<\/strong> The manifestation of figures out of the crew&#8217;s imagination is like \u201cShore Leave\u201d (TOS 1.15) and \u201cWhere No One Has Gone Before\u201d (TNG 1.6), except that the products of this crew\u2019s imagination are not especially deadly and include a fuddy-duddy old baseball player. I think when they say he played in the 40s, they mean the 2040s or 2140s.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Nostalgia for baseball is not going to win me over. Is there a lot of crossover between Star Trek and baseball fandom?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Isn\u2019t it funny that the fantasies celebrated include transforming a female cast member into a mindless sex fiend obsessed with the gratification of a male character? I hope the actors had fun shooting it, but that&#8217;s demeaning. And Quark has two voiceless beauties drape themselves over him like trophies or slabs of meat. Boy, I couldn\u2019t have seen that coming. Full of surprises this week.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">You can almost smell the desperation as the writers try to stretch the premise into a full 43 minutes. This midstream snippit of dialogue is telling:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">RUMPELSTILTSKIN: We don&#8217;t know any more than when we started. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">{. . .]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">RUMPELSTILTSKIN: How much longer do you suggest we devote to this? <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">BUCK: As long as it takes. It ain&#8217;t over til it&#8217;s over.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This lines were probably transcribed from conversation in the writers\u2019 room during script development.
