Looking back, this first season is both better and worse than I remember. There’s a preponderance of 3 to 4 star episodes which are solid, watchable, but just not that exciting. It never gets quite as bad as the dregs of TNG’s early seasons, but I will be looking for more highlights in Season Two worth remembering after the credits roll.
More EMH, please, and less Kes.

Hear, hear!
The series is at its best when it capitalizes on its unique position within the franchise… exploring the group dynamics of an isolated and divided crew (Learning Curve, State of Flux).
Less successful episodes tend to be “alien culture/technological problem of the week”.
The actors/actresses do not seem that strong, aside from Robert Picardo.
How is it better than you remember and how is it worse?
I find it less awful and less great than DS9 so far. Let’s hope it starts an upward trend next season!
