Star Trek Continues E03: “Fairest of Them All”
Plot: This webisode picks up exactly at the point where “Mirror, MIrror” leaves off, when Kirk and his landing party transport out of the Mirror Enterprise back to Enterprise Prime, exchanging places with their Mirror Universe counterparts. The fan film follows the after effects of Kirk Prime’s visit to the ship, and his advice to Mirror Spock, and the start of Mirror Spock’s revolution against the Terran Empire.
Thoughts: Mirror Kirk! Whole episode on Mirror Enterprise! This is super fun. Welcome back, promising series revealed in “Pilgrim of Enternity!” What a difference a good script makes. Todd Haberkorn’s Spock, who came across as almost a nonentity in Episode Two, takes center stage here and anchors the episode just fine. The goatee suits him.
I was disappointed that the actors playing Uhura and Scott didn’t seem to create distinct Mirror characters. Why would Kirk be the only one who is distinctively different? I wish that Mirror Uhura, in particular, had been portrayed as a stronger character.
The actress playing Malena, Asia DeMarcos, was a very good match for BarBara Luna from the Original Series. I almost thought they used the same actress and figured out a way to digitally de-age her.
It is an extremely nerdy impulse to want to make this kind of sequel episode. It shows that the makers of this web series have their hearts in the right place, and should live long and prosper in their chosen avocation.
This is the last episode of the series available (for now!), so we will return to just covering canonical Star Trek productions for the time being.
